Cole Arts and Science Academy Receives Innovation Approval
The Denver school board approved Cole Arts and Science Academy‘s (CASA) proposal to operate as an innovation school under the Innovation School Act. The proposal now goes to the Colorado State Board of Education.
As an innovation school, CASA is seeking waivers from state law and the DPS and Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) collective-bargaining agreement.
If approved by the State Board of Education in August, CASA would become the third school in the state to be granted innovation status since the Innovation Schools Act was signed into law in 2008. Denver's Manual High School and Montclair Elementary School were both granted innovation status in March 2009.
