DPS 3rd Grader to be Published in Young Writers of America 2011 Poetry Anthology
Eucebio Duran, a third-grader at Barnum Elementary, is soon to be a published writer. As part of a descriptive writing assignment, Eucebio was encouraged to submit his work for the 2011 Annual Young Writers of America Poetry Contest. Students were expected to submit a poem with the theme of “The World as I See It …” or “What My Family Means to Me …” Eucebio wrote an original acrostic poem honoring his family.
A panel of educators reviewed thousands of submissions entered in the 2011 Midwest Regional Young Writers of America Poetry Contest. Less than 20 percent of entries were selected. Eucebio’s poem entitled, “Family,” was one of the few selected for publication. Congratulations to Eucebio and Barnum Elementary on a job well done!
