New Families Looking for a School
Students may enroll in any school in the district, regardless of where they live, so long as there is space available and they meet the entrance requirements. The best thing to do is visit a few schools that are of interest to the family. To locate your neighborhood school, call the School Boundary Hotline at (720) 423-3400, or search online by entering your home address at http://schoolfinder.dpsk12.org/.
If you are enrolling for the first time, bring the following information to any DPS school to register:
- Verification of your child's date of birth (birth certificate or other documentation);
- Immunization records;
- Proof of your home address (something mailed to your address, such as a utility bill or copy
of a lease); and - Name and address of your child's previous school (if you are transferring from another
school district) so that academic records may be obtained.

Current Students
Before school starts in the fall, new and returning students are asked to register with schools and verify personal information on file. Some schools may send home information for families to verify and return. Students moving from elementary school to middle school and students moving from a K-8 or middle school to a high school must register at their new school.

Overview of the Choice Timeline
First Round Traditional Choice |
Opens: January 5, 2009 Closes: January 30, 2009 |
If you are interested in a school other than your neighborhood school, traditional choice allows you to apply for a transfer to another DPS school. A firm deadline is set each year for the end of first round choice. Up to two schools may be indicated on a choice application. Choice applications are available at all DPS schools and online for parents to print. Forms must be returned to a school for central processing. Please note, the DPS central office does not accept choice applications directly. A lottery will be conducted if there are more applicants than space available in a school. Families will receive acceptance letters or waiting list notification following the close of first round choice. |
Second Round Choice |
Opens: March 2, 2009 Closes: August 28, 2009 |
Due to limited capacity in some schools, your student may not secure a spot in the school(s) to which you applied during first round choice. You will have the opportunity to complete an application to any additional school(s) during the second round choice period. You will need to return choice applications to the specific school or schools that interest you. Students are accepted during this second round of the choice process on a first come, first-served basis after the first round applicants have been placed. |
Magnet Schools |
December 12, 2008 - Secondary magnet program application deadline |
Students may apply to attend a DPS Magnet School. Transportation may be provided according to district guidelines. Each magnet school manages its own application process. Ask for an application from the magnet school that interests you. |
