Team YESS board ran in 4h.01m.11s and placed 144th overall.
Lincoln’s team coach ran in a separate relay with friends and former Lincoln students and ended second overall with 2h.29m.42sec.
The YESS Institute Lancer Leaders program now enters its fourth year at Lincoln HS. This peer leadership program has been very successful in keeping at risk students in school, improve grades and create school bonding.
The model is based upon attend, attach, achieve principle. School liaison Daniel Medina partners with YESS to create buy-in from families for freshmen to be successful at Lincoln High School.
It is the junior/senior peer leaders, who mentor the freshmen twice a week, that help the freshmen create a positive bonding to the school.
YESS adds a fourth A: advance.
All peer leaders graduate high school. Further, we ask the freshmen to become peer leaders when entering their junior year, so they can help a new generation of freshmen advance successfully towards high school graduation.
This program has been called by the Denver Mayor’s Office for Education and Children one of the innovative programs in youth engagement and leadership. Under the leadership of Antonio Esquibel and Antwan Wilson, DPS is currently looking at expanding this program to North, West and Montbello High Schools.
