This past Wednesday, January 25th students, staff and administration of High Tech Early College hosted Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Superintendent Tom Boasberg, CEO/President of Westwood College, Dean Gouin and other dignitaries. This gathering celebrated the partnership between Westwood College, KidsTek and Denver Public Schools.

During the 2011-2012 school year, Westwood College and Denver nonprofit KidsTek joined forces with Denver Public Schools (DPS) to provide highly sought after Cisco Networking Academy Curriculum computer networking education to High Tech Early College and North High School students.

The program builds upon the success of a six-week after school technology course that was initially offered by Westwood College and KidsTek to North High School students during the 2010-11 school year. For the 2011-12 school year, DPS offered the program as a yearlong, elective at both North and High Tech Early College (HTEC).

Highlights of the program during the 2011-2012 school year include:

• Twelve students passed the Fall 2011 semester.
• Since these students are all freshman, they are taught Cisco's IT Essentials curriculum which is a year-long program. It is a basic hardware and software class that teaches current freshman foundational computer knowledge to prepare them to enroll in Cisco's CNNA programs beginning the following school year.
• At the end of this semester, the students will be able to take the test to receive A+ certification.
