South High School Welcomes First Lady

Denver -- Thirty South High School students sat in the third-floor library Monday afternoon, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the First Lady.

Michelle Obama was welcomed by South High staff and students in a room crowded with media cameras.  She spoke a few words to the students and then opened the discussion up by having them ask her questions.

Students asked the First Lady about standardized tests, getting into college, and her advice to them as they enter the world as adults.

Her visit to Denver is part of the White House leadership and mentoring program,  a series of events following the model of the Women of Excellence outreach earlier this year.

On Monday, National and local women leaders and students, including some students from DPS high schools, met at the Governor’s mansion for a midday luncheon discussion before Michelle Obama made a visit to South High School.
