The Denver Teacher Residency (DTR) is a teacher preparation program within Denver Public Schools (DPS) built on the DPS belief that all of our students deserve to have an exemplary teacher. With this belief in mind, our program is based on a year-long residency alongside a DPS master teacher, where upon completion of their residency year, candidates will earn a teaching certificate and an early contract for a teaching position in a DPS high-needs school. In exchange for a five-year commitment—year one being a residency year—we offer not only the experience and practice of a year-long residency, but also full tuition reimbursement for a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Denver’s Morgridge College of Education.
By providing a rich combination of experience and education, our program seeks to provide aspiring educators from various professional and academic backgrounds, an opportunity to learn the principles, pedagogy, culture, and classroom practices necessary to become highly effective teachers in Denver Public Schools.
The application deadlines are December 18, 2009 and March 19, 2010. Bi-weekly and weekly Information Sessions are held most Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM at 900 Grant St. Please visit our website (www.denverteacherresidency.org) for the date of the information session you would like to attend, to learn more about our program, and to begin an application.
