Kunsmiller Middle School students were asked to write a one-page essay
titled, "A Day in the Life of a Middle School Student." Four of the
most creative essays were selected from each literacy teacher's
classes to place in a time capsule that was placed when the school first opened 50 years
ago. It is encased by cement and mortar on the southwest corner of the
building. Construction specialists will be in charge of the opening the vault on May 2oth, and
resealing of the vault on May 22nd. Half of the writers of selected essays will attend the opening
of the time capsule, and the other half will be attending the closing
of the time capsule.
Students will place their essays in the vault for
the next 50 years' opening. Students will place other various objects
from our current age back into the time capsule. According to Yolanda
Bezio, the event coordinator, items included are: a copy of the Rocky
Mountain News, a CD Power Point brochure of Kunsmiller created by our
technologist, Linda Shank, a Kunsmiller t-shirt, this year's yearbook,
and perhaps a lesson plan book from one of the teachers. The entire
celebration will be videotaped and shown to students at grade level
assemblies along with distribution of yearbooks and refreshments.
