2007 School Reform
Welcome
Here you will find up-to-date information about school closures, new schools, ongoing support for affected families and much more.
Denver Public Schools began a discussion with the community around improving student achievement and the need for consolidation back in April 2006. At that time, Superintendent Bennet called for a blue ribbon committee, from which A+ Denver was born. A+ Denver is an independent group of parents, civic leaders, and business leaders that provided the district a robust set of criteria and principles that allowed the district to ensure that students affected by the reform changes would receive a better academic option in the long run.
On october 1, 2007, the district proposed the closure of eight schools, the creation of five new schools and introduced several other reform proposals. All of the proposals, inclusing the school closures and new schools, were approved by the Board of Education on November 15, 2007.
