Reason for Closure: Most recent school program, Denver School of the Arts (DSA), relocated to a new facility in 2004.

Estimated Cost to Reopen as School: The condition of the school is rapidly deteriorating, and the cost to restore it is estimated at $6 to $15 million or more, for major renovation and construction of code-compliant fire suppression, American Disabilities Act compliance, flooring, roofing, exterior restoration, windows and grounds updating and maintenance.

Additional Facility Notes: Byers Middle School has been designated as a Denver Landmark building. This means that exterior changes of any kind require approval by the Landmark Commission.
