Submit a Press Release

General Information

Complete the entire form. The Communications Office will contact you if more information is needed. Please allow 3-5 business days for the press release to be approved and made public.

Create a Headline

Short descriptive headline that captures the essence of the release. It should be in the present tense. Example Headline: Asbury 5th Graders Win Spelling Bee

1st Paragraph

Denver, CO— Opening paragraph should be really brief but explain all the important points: who, what, when, where, and why. This paragraph should be anywhere from 3 to 5 sentences.

2nd Paragraph

The second paragraph goes into more detailed information. For example, this section could explain the importance of the event and why it’s taking place. In general, remember that most important information should be placed at the beginning of the press release - information at the end is less likely to be read.

Quote

In this next section, offer a quote from a Principal or department head. Remember, this quote is often used in the story. Do not use a quote to state a fact (Ex: do not write "Our fifth graders will be staging 'Phantom of the Opera' on October 25 and 26," the principal said). Rather, the quote should convey an opinion or feeling (Ex: Do write "Our fifth graders are passionate about the songs in 'The Phantom' and have spent countless hours rehearsing, building the set and making the costumes," the principal said. "I know all their hard work will pay off in a great evening of entertainment."

The Last Paragraph

If you have more information to include, use the last paragraph to highlight the need for your particular program/event. This is where you’ll go in detail about how it got started and the value it offers. Once again, you should keep paragraphs at about 3 to 5 sentences in length.

Wrapping It Up

Lastly, include contact information. All media inquiries should be addressed by the Communications Director.
