About the Communications Office
Our strategy
We will celebrate and accelerate progress by engaging the community more fully in the education reform agenda of Denver Public Schools (DPS). Our plan is a multi-faceted approach to delivering a positive, proactive, coherent, consistent message about the strengths and challenges of Denver's schools.
Our primary goals
- Increase awareness about the positive impact of reform efforts on schools and improve public perception of the schools and the district; and
- Generate engagement and support for the education of Denver's children.
Our focus
Improve the frequency and quality of news stories and positive messages to families, staff and the community.
Realign media relations strategy to focus on the following key concepts:
- Plan ahead - a year-long strategy for highlighting success stories in schools and placing timely stories in targeted outlets;
- Put a face on progress - increased emphasis on individual successes among students, teachers and schools to illustrate the impact of reform efforts;
- Know what's out there - more rigorous tracking of local and national media coverage, with improved mechanisms for dissemination of positive stories to stakeholders;
- Set the record straight - a more systemic, ongoing strategy for countering false or misleading news stories with informed responses from key spokespeople; and
- Cast a wider net - cultivation of relationships with reporters and editors in underutilized media outlets, including multilingual and electronic media.
Build capacity among the district to improve communication.
