Media Access to DPS

The Denver Public Schools is committed to cultivating and maintaining an open and productive relationship with the news media. The district recognizes that the media are a primary source of information about the Denver Public Schools for families and the community.

The district also recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety and privacy of students, staff, and families. District officials, schools, and staff must cooperate with the news media to the extent required and appropriate by law, while ensuring that media coverage does not interfere with teaching and learning.

The Communications Office is charged with media relations and will support all schools and departments manage all media interactions.

How to request access to a school?

The Communications Office will take all media requests for access to a school during normal school hours. Reporters can call (720) 423-3414 to make a request.

The Communications Office and the school will determine if the request for access is appropriate. The district and its schools will cooperate with the news media to the extent required and appropriate by law, while ensuring that media coverage does not interfere with teaching and learning.

After-school events in designated school areas that are otherwise open to the general public are also open to the media and do not require prior arrangements. Events during normal school hours must be arranged through the Communications Office.

All reporters are required to check-in with the main school office, wear a "guest pass" at all times, be escorted by a representative of the school at all times, and respect/abide by all district policies and local and state laws concerning the use of minors in news and broadcasting.

Although every effort is made to accommodate all media requests, please note that each request will take time in order to get the appropriate approvals.
