Ellis Elementary celebrates diversity with their International Festival on May 1st
Wednesday, April 23, 2008
“Join us as we tour the world in an afternoon,” said Jennifer Bailey, International Festival coordinator. Our children, teachers and community members have been busy decorating the school inside and out for these special days. Students at each grade level have been learning about different countries.
On May 1, children will break from their usual routine and buddy up with friends from different grade levels to learn about various countries from around the world. They will learn through songs, music, crafts and other activities. According to Ellis principal, Mr. Khoa Nguyen, “Ellis children and their families come from all over the world, helping to create a global learning community here. This multi-cultural environment provides a rare opportunity for our students and staff to learn valuable lessons – ones that are less likely to be learned in more isolated communities.”
The afternoon will start with an international lunch prepared by the Ellis lunchroom staff. The remainder of the afternoon will feature a wide variety of activities: a Mariachi band, African drummers, Greek dancers, Japanese entertainers, a May pole dance, DU soccer team, and more. Entertainment, art and classroom projects will be enjoyed from their partners at Cresent Realty. Everyone will get a taste of foods from around the world at our International Buffet with foods provided by each classroom, Panda Restaurant Group, Inc., Country Buffet and King Soopers. All children will get a free reusable International Day water bottle courtesy of the Ellis PTA.
We invite you to come and join us May 1 for our International Festival at Ellis Elementary, 1651 S. Dahlia St. This is a fun opportunity to experience the flavor of our truly international school and community.
