Green up your holiday shopping with Ellis and FrontRange Earth Force
Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Ellis Elementary and FrontRange Earth Force are teaming up to host the second annual Green Harvest silent auction on Thursday, November 12, from 5-8 at Temple Emanuel. The event, which raises money for youth-led service learning at Ellis and other DPS schools, offers goods and services from environmentally responsible donors across the state. Silent auction items include restaurant certificates, eco-friendly toys, handmade jewelry, and much more. There will also be a live auction where bidders can take home a limited edition New Belgium cruiser or even a residential solar system, courtesy of Adobe Solar.
Youth-led service learning in Denver area schools gives students an opportunity to identify issues that are important to them and work with community partners to find ways to address them. Past projects at Ellis include implementing school-wide recycling, working to reduce cafeteria waste, and promoting the use of reusable bags. These projects allow students to become problem solvers in their own communities and share their own ideas.
"We are excited to partner with DPS and FrontRange Earth Force to help promote sustainable projects and education in our community," said Greg Koss of Adobe Solar, the event's sponsor. "Earth Force and Ellis Elementary are leading the way in sustainability in schools and we are excited to continue to partner with them in the coming year,"
Both Ellis and FrontRange Earth Force were recently recognized as environmental leaders in the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program. They are thrilled to bring together other environmentally responsible businesses and organizations as donors to this unique event, and to raise money to continue engaging youth in resolving real community issues.
