McMeen Elementary School Celebrates its 50th Birthday
Wednesday, October 21, 2009
On Tuesday, November 17th McMeen Elementary School will be celebrating a 50th birthday. The event, which will begin at 6:00 P.M., will include dinner for all attendees, a multi-cultural fashion show, and an open house for alumni. We want to celebrate McMeen's unique history by welcoming students past and present.
During the event, memorabilia documenting McMeen's history will be on display. In order to donate such items, please contact Mackie Fritzmeier or Sarah Flanders at McMeen. We are hoping that alumni and community members can contribute to this fun event by attending and loaning us items from the past. Additionally, we will be hosting a Book Fair, where community members can purchase a book to donate to the McMeen Library. A special bookplate noting the contribution, will be put in the book. We will also be creating a time capsule, to be buried at the school to be opened in 50 years.
" For the past 50 years, McMeen has had an important and powerful impact on our community. Today McMeen reflects the rich diversity of Denver and we hope all former students and teachers will join us in celebrating this milestone," said Principal Dr. Michael DeGuire.
Today, McMeen is a multi-cultural community. During the evening we will have a fashion show with children wearing clothing from their native countries. That will be followed by a pot luck dinner and birthday cake. For more information, see the "I went to McMeen Elementary School" facebook page.
