Steele Elementary Takes Flight: Auction Items Top 55K

Monday, October 19, 2009

DENVER, CO - Steele Elementary parents and auction co-chairs, Traci Mink and Kirstin Homer, are pleased to announce that this year's dinner and auction, October 23rd at Wings Over the Rockies, has brought in over $55,000 worth of donated items for bidding.  Auction items up for grabs range from a day of pampering at the Ritz to lunch on South Pearl with all of the proceeds funding additional educators and enrichment opportunities for Steele students

Steele Elementary launched their annual fundraising gala and auction seven years ago when they recognized a need for additional educators in the classroom.  Preschool through fifth grade classes now have a ratio on average of one educator to thirteen students.

"Our neighborhood merchants and the community-at-large are tremendously supportive and generous when it comes to their local school," said Mink.

"We are grateful to our community for their donations because items that might normally be out of reach can be purchased quite reasonably at the auction. Our dinner is underwritten, too, so that it is affordable.  We are a public school and the school is invited."
