Useful Tips

Plan Ahead

Start Including translation time or interpretation needs as part of your regular planning for projects. This will help you plan in advance and meet deadlines.

For translations, the length of the project and type of file are important in determining the time it will take to translate. Usually, Microsoft Word projects with less than 10 full pages of text can be completed within seven (7) business days. However, larger projects or projects submitted in a PDF or PowerPoint file do take longer as the files need to be manipulated or reformatted.

For interpretations, remember to request the interpreter with plenty of advance notice. We schedule interpreters based on a first come, first serve basis.

The 30% Rule

Non-English languages can, on average, take up 30% more space than English. If enough space has not been allotted, the translator will be forced to reduce the font size, or change character and line spacing. New pages may even need to be added. As the text will be longer and flow differently, it's possible that some images will also have to be repositioned and the entire document will look a little bit different.
