City/DPS Collaborative
City/DPS Collaborative Partnership Initiative
In April of 2008, a formal Partnership Initiative and Business Plan were endorsed by the Superintendent, Denver's Mayor, the Board of Education and City Council.
The goal of the initiative is to improve student academic achievement and strengthen linkages with neighborhoods. The initiative demonstrates how the integration of institutional services within DPS and City government - along with resources such as community-based organizations and other stakeholders within the community - can significantly improve student and family outcomes through a well-coordinated and comprehensive delivery system.
Resource Advocates
Resource Advocates are central in promoting the initiative's mission to support and strengthen linkages among community-based organizations, businesses, parents and schools. Resource Advocates work in collaboration with schools, collaborative school committees (CSC), DPS/City collaborative partners, and other individuals/groups to achieve measurable outcomes and goals outlined in the City/DPS Business Plan. The scope of work for Resource Advocates includes:
- Work with school principals and administrators to identify ongoing school needs; recruit quality programming to meet the identified needs of schools
- Support the long-term goals of increased parent and family engagement, strengthened neighborhoods, increased student engagement and increased skill development
- Support the implementation of School Improvement Plans and improve outcomes for students
- Work with the DPS Project Manager to identify the quality and capacity of current programs serving the needs of families and students
- Support the expansion of existing school partner efforts that are relevant and effective in advancing student success
- Engage community, business and parent groups in activities designed to advance the goals outlined in the School Performance Framework
Resource Advocates are currently located at three high schools (East, West and North), three ECE-8 schools (Cole, Trevista at Horace Mann and Place Bridge Academy) and two ECE-5 schools (Smith and Stedman).
